How to read frame dimensions
A typical eyeglass has three dimensions – width of the lens, bridge width & arm length. Generally, all prescription glasses have these specifications listed inside the temple arm of the frame.
It is important to understand the size dimensions for eyeglasses as this will help you pick the correct frame size for your child.
The diagram below shows how the frame size corresponds to the three dimensions of your child's glasses. Lens width and bridge width which are the two core frame dimensions are always stated as two numbers.
For example, size 45-17-125 this would correspond to the size dimensions shown below:

You can check the size of your child's current frames if they are already wearing glasses by reading the labeling within the frames - below is an example.
How to measure your child's Pupil Distance (PD)
The optical centre in the lenses is determined using the Pupil Distance (PD). The PD is sometimes written on the prescription. To ensure that your child's frames and lenses are aligned with the optical centre of their eyes is why measuring Pupil Distance is important. This ensures that they have the best viewing experience with their glasses.
You can follow the steps below to measure your child's PD with a millimetre (mm) ruler at home.
- Stand about 8 inches (20cm) away from your child.
- Hold a millimeter ruler on the bridge of their nose, against their eyes.
- Make sure your child is looking straight to get an accurate measurement.
- See the distance between the centre of your child's eyes by reading the mm mark on the ruler. This number is their distance PD.
- Repeat these steps 2 or 3 times to make sure your measurements are accurate and consistent
To know your Face Size?
1. Measure with your existing pair of glasses
Did you know that the width of your credit card is approximately the same as the width of a standard size lens (also defined as ‘M’ or ‘medium’ size) and it may be a perfect tool within sight, to help you get an accurate measurement of the perfect pair of glasses for you.
1. Stand in front of a mirror with a credit card in your hand.
2. Place one edge of the card at the centre of your nose and observe the place where the other edge ends.
3. If the card ends at the end of your eye, you should pick the standard size (M).
4. If it extends beyond the end of your eye, then opt for small (S).
5. If the card does not even reach the end of your eye, then large (L) would be your perfect fit.
